MEDICAL ASSISTING - Associate of Science Degree or Diploma

Provo College's accredited Medical Assisting program gives you the education you need to begin your healthcare career with confidence. With the average graduation time of 18 months, you'll get out of the classroom and into an in-demand career.

Just how in-demand are Medical Assistants? The U.S. Department of Labor projects that Medical Assisting will be among the fastest growing careers through 2014, with a project need for 589,000 new jobs over the next seven years. (U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2006).

Medical Assisting graduates are trained in:

  • ECGs, injections, venipuncture, and urinalysis
  • Transcription and charting
  • Patient gowning, draping, vital signs, and X-ray positioning
  • Minor surgical assisting
  • Phlebotomy and pharmacology

Associate of Science Degree in Medical Assisting - 18 months

Diploma in Medical Assisting - 12 months

Request Information

The program prepares students for the National Certification Exam for Medical Assistants. This exam is administered on campus and may be taken through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Certification exam fees are the responsibility of the student.

Students may sit for the following certifications through the NCCT after completing the corresponding course(s):

  • Phlebotomy Technician: MED255
  • ECG Technician: MED220
  • Patient Care Technician (PCT): All core courses (must be CNA certified)
  • Medical Insurance and Coding Specialist: MED138 and MED145

Criminal background check and/or drug screen tests may be required for externship and/or employment.
